(20-09-23)MOGADISHU — A joint military operation by the Somali National Army (SNA), Galmudug state forces, and local militia has effectively neutralised 25 Al-Shabaab militants in the Mudug region, according to an official statement from the Defence Ministry released on Wednesday.
Government troops and allies initiated the operation on Wednesday in the village of Gaadday, situated east of the village of Amaara. After liberating Gaadday from Al-Shabaab control, the forces advanced to Shabeelow, another area that has been a strategic foothold for the extremist group. Military reports indicate the destruction of several vehicles and bases used by Al-Shabaab.
The Defence Ministry stated in an official release: “Joint operations by SNA, Galmudug and local forces led to a successful operation against Al-Shabaab militants in Gaadday village, east of Amara, in the Mudug region. A total of 25 Al-Shabaab members were eliminated, and their vehicles and bases were destroyed.”
Following the successful operation in Gaadday and Shabeelow, the national army and local militia are conducting an operation to pursue Al-Shabaab militants in the areas of Kuridhi and Qoriley, which are located west of Amaara village. The ongoing operation is part of the government’s commitment to rooting out extremist forces in the region.
