(08-09-23) LAS ANOD — Deputy leader of SSC-Khatumo, Dr Mohamed Abdi Ismail, held a special meeting on Thursday evening to commend the region’s medical teams, including ambulance services, for their tireless support over a challenging six-month period.
Organised by the regional health committee, the meeting was an occasion for Dr Ismail to extend his gratitude and to call for “doubling the work” in healthcare services. He praised the teams for their relentless commitment to rescuing frontline soldiers and local residents during difficult times.
Also in attendance was Jama Farah Hassan, Puntland Government’s Minister of Health, who has been instrumental in facilitating healthcare initiatives in the broader region. Hassan acknowledged the “significant role” played by SSC-Khatumo’s medical personnel in ensuring effective healthcare during the crisis.
The meeting gave a platform for the medical staff, including first aid providers and ambulance drivers, to share their experiences. They spoke of navigating treacherous routes to reach and save SSC-Khatumo fighters, affirming their commitment to the challenging but fulfilling work.
Between February and August, Las Anod faced constant shelling from the Somaliland army, until their defeat in Gooja-Adde in August.
