(12-09-23) MOGADISHU — Abdirahman Ahmed Ali, the leader of the Central Committee of SSC Khatumo, solidified his administrative line-up by announcing the completion of his Executive Council Office Secretaries on Tuesday. Unveiled with the purpose of bringing “necessary experience, knowledge, and responsibility” to governance, the appointments come as a significant development for the newest autonomous region in Somalia.
Taking cues from Puntland’s 1998 administration, SSC Khatumo’s central council consists of 45 members, who had earlier elected the chairman and the deputy for the executive council. The latest appointments mark the filling of nine key roles within the executive arm of governance.
List of Appointed Secretaries
- Dr. Yusuf Sulaiman Sancad – Secretary of Social Affairs
- Abdirisaq Yusuf Mohamed – Secretary of Planning, Development and International Cooperation
- Abdisahal Jama Mohamed – Secretary of the Interior, Federation and Reconciliation
- Abdirashid Mohamud Mohamed Hambuse – Secretary of Finance
- Abdulsatar Sheikh Osman Omar – Secretary of Commerce, Industry, Investment and Production
- Dahir Abdirisaaq Ahmed – Secretary of Information, Communication and Technology
- Mohamud Yusuf Hassan – Security Secretary
- Abdihakim Jama Dalmar – Secretary of Education, Heritage and Higher Education
- Abdiqadir Abdi Warsame Digale – Secretary of Public Works, Transport and Reconstruction
The formation of the Executive Council showcases a balanced portfolio that spans social services, security, and development among others. Observers suggest this approach is likely to enable a multi-faceted and comprehensive strategy for the region’s progress.
The announcement has been met with mixed reactions locally. While some praise the breadth of experience among the appointees, others have raised questions about the transparency of the selection process. Political analysts also view these appointments as a litmus test for SSC Khatumo’s ability to govern effectively.
