(29-10-23) MOGADISHU — In a move aimed at intensifying the fight against militant group Al-Shabaab, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed former Hiiraan Governor Ali Jayte Osman as the Chief Liaison in the Office of the President for the Civilian Defense Forces, commonly known as Macawisley.
The appointment was made official through a presidential decree on Sunday, highlighting the government’s focus on bolstering its local armed forces. These forces have played a key role in combating Al-Shabaab, particularly in the south and central regions.
Ali Jayte is no stranger to anti-insurgent operations. As a former governor, he led military campaigns that significantly curbed Al-Shabaab’s influence in the Hiiraan region. His strategies were instrumental in reclaiming territories and restoring a semblance of governance and public order.
The new role also addresses lingering disputes in the city of Beledweyne, which had emerged following Jayte’s removal from his gubernatorial post. Prior to the appointment, President Mohamud and Jayte met in Mahaas district where they reached an agreement with the Hawadle community on coordinated actions against Al-Shabaab.
