(11-10-23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday met with Amy Pope, the Director General of the United Nations International Organisation for Migration (IOM). According to Villa Somalia, the discussions revolved around intensifying collaborative efforts in the backdrop of the looming climate-induced crisis. With a growing number of forced displacements, rising migration trends, and escalating food insecurity, both leaders recognised the urgency of enhancing cooperation.
Khadija Mohamed, Somalia’s Minister for Climate Change and Environment, also met with Pope and showcased the nation’s advancements in digital systems aimed at tackling these very challenges. She shared via a tweet, “Delighted to welcome @AmyEPope, the Director General at @UNmigration, at @MoECC_Somalia. We shared an extensive insight into our advanced digital systems and the remarkable initiatives addressing climate issues.”
