(16-10-23) GURIEL — Following the Alshabaab militant’s attack on Sunday, the Somali National Army and local forces have ramped up security measures in and around the village of Barujed, between Guriel and Elber towns in the Galgaduud Region on Monday. Military vehicles and troops equipped with a range of weaponry have been deployed to strategic points near the village.
Officials leading the operation told the media that the heightened security comes in response to Alshabaab’s failed attempt to capture Barujed. They indicate plans to extend the scale and scope of these operations into the eastern districts of the Galgaduud Region, including Elbur, Galhareri, Dac and Barkan.
“This is a direct counteraction to deter terrorist activities in the region. We’re committed to liberating areas used as staging grounds for attacks,” said Ahmed Gedi Somali National Army officer.
The current operations align with the broader initiative by the Somali National Army to eradicate Al-Shabaab elements from Hirshabeelle and Galmudug States, aiming for restored stability and security.
