(28-11-23) MOGADISHU – Ahmed Abdullahi Ali (Nadara) identified as their finance chief in the Mudug region, was killed in a targeted operation on Tuesday. The operation was conducted in Carfuuda, a village under Harardhere district, approximately 35 km from Dabagalo, a key Al-Shabaab stronghold in the southern part of Mudug.
The offensive was a collaborative effort between local forces and government troops. It resulted in the neutralisation of Nadara, alongside the recovery of his motorcycle and an AK47 rifle. Nadara was a notorious figure within Al-Shabaab, known for his significant role in the group’s financial operations in the region.
A statement released by the Ministry of Defense highlighted the operation’s success: “Our forces, with the aid of local residents, successfully executed an operation in Carfuuda, Mudug. Ahmed Abdullahi Ali, also known as Nadara, Al-Shabaab’s finance chief, was neutralized. The operation led to the seizure of weapons and the rescue of 100 livestock and unveiled Nadara’s extensive involvement in extorting local businesses. This marks a critical setback for terrorist activities in the region.”
The confrontation reportedly ensued following a clash with locals from the Harardhere district. During the operation, the forces managed to rescue 100 camels and goats, previously accumulated by Nadara for the militant group. Despite the success, some of Nadara’s associates managed to escape amid the skirmish.
Further solidifying the operation’s impact, the army presented concrete evidence of Nadara’s engagement in extortion schemes. Recovered vouchers indicated his practice of demanding money from local business owners. The operation’s impetus was partly fueled by growing local discontent over livestock robberies in the Carfuuda village, suggesting a community increasingly resistant to Al-Shabaab’s influence.
