(01-11-23) MOGADISHU — The Somali Armed Forces, specifically the 9th Battalion of the 60th Division, executed a critical military operation on Wednesday in areas surrounding Huddur, the capital of the Bakool region.
Tthe Ministry of Defence announced that the Somali National Army has successfully regained control of villages previously under the influence of Al-Shabaab. The recaptured villages include Abagbeeday, Dudumaale, Buulo-Kojoor, and Eelgaras, all located near Huddur. “This operation marks the beginning of the second phase and is a decisive step in restoring safety to our communities,” the Ministry affirmed.
The operation was led by the commander of the 9th Brigade of the 60th Division, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to free Al-Shabaab from the country.
This military action follows a recent visit to Huddur by President Hassan Sheikh, who was accompanied by the Defence Minister and the President of Southwest State. The visit aimed to spearhead the second phase of the offensive against Al-Shabaab, as part of broader efforts to curtail the influence of insurgent groups and restore stability in the region.
