(23-11-23) MOGADISHU — A landmine explosion occurred in the Yaqshid district of Mogadishu on Wednesday night, causing significant damage but fortunately no loss of life. The explosion, which was strongly felt by local residents, severely damaged a pharmacy owned by Dr. Ismail Kulow, a well-known humanitarian.
The pharmacy, which provided essential medical services to the community, was destroyed in the blast, resulting in the loss of vital medicines and infrastructure. Sources suggest that the installation of CCTV cameras at the pharmacy, in compliance with a government order, might have made it a target. However, this theory has not been confirmed by official sources.
As of now, there has been no official statement from Somali security officials regarding the explosion. Police forces were observed conducting preliminary investigations at the site of the incident.
This attack is part of a disturbing pattern in Mogadishu, where commercial centres, especially those linked to extortion activities, have become targets. Groups such as Al-Shabaab and Daesh have been involved in similar incidents across the city. These attacks have been on the rise recently, with facilities owned by Hormuud Company also coming under attack.
