(13/11/23) GAROWE – The Puntland State House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, commenced the 53rd session on Monday, focusing on a critical agenda: the Puntland Land Tax Revenue Code’s second reading.
In a session also chaired by the First Deputy Speaker Abdicasis Abdullahi Osman and Second Deputy Speaker Ismail Mohamed Warsame, the Finance, Economics, and Accounts Committee presented its report. The report encompassed comprehensive consultations with all agencies impacted by the Tax Code and suggested amendments to certain sections of the Act.
Following this presentation, a detailed, clause-by-clause debate ensued, grounded in the principles of the Puntland State Constitution. This debate marks a step forward in Puntland’s effort to reform its tax system, aiming to bolster revenue collection and ensure tax compliance among its citizens.
The Puntland Land Tax Revenue Code is designed to streamline the tax system, making it more efficient and taxpayer-friendly. This is seen as an important move for the government to enhance its capacity to provide essential services to the public.
The parliamentary debate on the amendment of the Puntland Land Tax Revenue Act is slated to continue through 14 November, in accordance with the legislative procedures outlined in Article 58 of the House of Representatives by-laws.
