(15-11-23) MOGADISHU – The Somali National Army, alongside the Galmudug Dervishes and Local Defense Forces, is intensifying its campaign against Al-Shabaab in Mudug’s southern region, particularly targeting Shabelow village. The elite Gorgor commando unit, led by Major Abdi Mohamed of the 18th Battalion, plays a crucial role, focusing on known Al-Shabaab strongholds.
A Ministry of Defence statement highlighted the success at Buurta-Gaadi, a key victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to reclaim territories and strengthen security, encouraging the return of displaced residents to their homes.
Wednesday operations were reported on Buurta-Gaadi, a strategic location recently reclaimed from Al-Shabaab. Major Mohamed expressed confidence in the military’s capability to overcome Al-Shabaab’s tactics, which he described as primarily focused on creating fear through explosions.
The combined operations of the Federal, Deravish, and Mawisley forces are systematically targeting Al-Shabaab-controlled areas across Galmudug and Hirshabelle. This unified front represents a significant advancement in the fight to diminish Al-Shabaab’s regional influence.
