Somali President Directs Focus on National Security and Anti-Terrorism in Key Meeting

(16/11/23) MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyaidin, Commander of the Somali National Army, and Brigadier General Sulub Ahmed Firin, Commander of the Somali Police Force and other senior security experts to deliberate on the nation’s security situation.

The gathering, centred on the ongoing offensive against the Al-Shabaab militant group, was marked by detailed discussions on the first phase of the liberation operation. The meeting also included discussions on the role of public mobilization in supporting the military’s efforts.

The President, after receiving a comprehensive report from the National Army Command, underscored the role of the short-term plan in attaining the Somali people’s aspirations for eradicating Al-Shabaab. He lauded the valiant efforts of the Somali Army, noting their sacrifices in liberating territories under terrorist control. Mohamud’s commendation of the Army’s bravery underscores the gravity of the situation and the government’s resolve in combating terrorism.
