The 25-member delegation, led by Canadian Ambassador Richard Arbeiter, is set to assess and reinforce the efforts of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and other UN peacekeeping bodies in the region. Their visit, spanning engagements in both Somalia and Kenya, demonstrates a comprehensive approach to enhancing regional security.
Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, during discussions with the committee, highlighted the progress made in the fight against terrorism. “Our collaboration with ATMIS and international allies has been instrumental in our strides towards peace,” he stated.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Omar also emphasized the importance of international cooperation. “The support we receive from our global partners is crucial in maintaining momentum in our security operations,” Omar commented.
A statement from the Ministry of Defense underscored the Somali government’s commitment to bolstering its Security Branch and enhancing the country’s overall security framework. “This initiative is crucial in establishing a stable and secure environment, paving the way for socio-economic development,” the statement read.
This high-level engagement with the UN delegation is seen as reinforcing the global community’s support for Somalia’s ongoing efforts towards achieving long-term peace and stability.
