(02/11/23) KIGALI — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Daud Aweis, delivered a compelling presentation at the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in Rwanda, showcasing the substantial progress Somalia has made in revitalising its tourism sector.
Minister Aweis addressed a global audience of tourism leaders and stakeholders, emphasising the Somali government’s commitment to stability and security as the foundation for the nation’s tourism growth. He proudly declared that Somalia is now secure and open for tourists worldwide, ready to share its rich culture and heritage.
“Our nation is brimming with cultural richness and historic significance, and we are keen to share this treasure with the global community,” Minister Aweis stated. “We have worked diligently to ensure safety and stability, creating an inviting atmosphere for tourism.”
In recent years, the number of international tourists visiting Somalia has seen a steady increase, attracted by the country’s unique historical sites and cultural offerings. Minister Aweis highlighted this trend as a clear indication of the government’s dedication to rejuvenating tourism and contributing to the socio-economic development of Somalia.
“The tourism sector holds immense potential to contribute to our national economy, and we are fully committed to unlocking this potential,” he added. “We have implemented measures to ensure the sustainable growth of tourism and to showcase the best that Somalia has to offer.”
The government’s proactive role in restoring historic sites and easing travel for international visitors was also underscored. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed at re-establishing Somalia as a leading tourist destination.
