(17-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Somali National Army (SNA) on Sunday officially assumed responsibility for the security of the Presidency, marking an end to 16 years of assistance from the African Transition Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces. This historic handover took place at Villa Somalia, the Presidential Palace, in a ceremony attended by prominent military and government officials.
The event was held at Villa Somalia and was attended by the Commander of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyiddin, the Director General of Villa Somalia, Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf and representatives of the African Union and the United Nations in Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, addressing the ceremony, commended the 77th Brigade of the National Army for taking over this essential role. He highlighted the importance of this event as a symbol of the restored strength and capability of the Somali Armed Forces. The President’s acknowledgement stresses the progress Somalia has made in rebuilding and empowering its military forces.
The Commander of the Armed Forces General Ibrahim Sheikh inspected the Presidential Security Forces and showed them how they are prepared to secure the security of the Heads of the country, and he thanked the officers and soldiers of ATMIS for helping to secure the security of the leadership of the country for many years.
