(18-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Abshir Omar Jama (Huruuse), Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, has resigned to run for the presidency of Puntland. Huruuse, who held the ministerial position since August 2022, officially submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
In a statement this Monday, Huruuse cited his commitment to integrity and honesty in service as the cornerstone of his tenure. “I have decided to resign…believing that I have served my nation with integrity and honesty,” he stated.
Huruuse’s decision is a strategic move to focus on his campaign in Puntland’s presidential election. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Barre and urged the Somali people to support government efforts towards peace and progress.
The resignation marks a shift in Somali politics, with Huruuse backed by the federal government now a key contender in the upcoming Puntland presidential race, set for next month.
