(05-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Somali Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held crucial talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart, His Highness Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif Al Saud, as part of his official visit to the Kingdom.
Central to their discussions were strategies to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance security cooperation, effectively combat terrorism, and manage the challenges of illegal migration. A special focus was placed on consolidating efforts to stabilise areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab.
Reflecting on the importance of this dialogue, Minister Fiqi remarked, “This meeting paves the way for a fortified alliance in our security strategies and mutual interests, essential for addressing the complex security challenges in our country.”
The talks in Riyadh build upon the groundwork laid in September when Somalia and Saudi Arabia’s security ministries inked an agreement to intensify anti-terrorism efforts. This recent meeting further cements their commitment to collaborate, with both countries expressing optimism about the potential of their partnership to foster regional stability and security.
