(18-12-23) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — Puntland’s security forces have detained more than 20 foreign nationals linked to ISIS in a series of operations in the Bari region’s Calmikaad mountains, officials confirmed Monday.
The group of detainees includes individuals from Ethiopia, Sudan, Morocco, Yemen, and other countries, highlighting the growing international composition of ISIS in Somalia. This development marks a significant shift in the dynamics of the conflict in the region, signalling an increasing involvement of foreign fighters in ISIS-Somalia’s activities.
Authorities from the Security Branch have indicated that the foreign nationals are currently undergoing thorough investigations. They are expected to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
This series of arrests is a part of Puntland’s ongoing efforts to combat the ISIS insurgency, particularly in the challenging mountainous areas where the group has been active.
