(23-12-23) PARIS (Halqabsi News) — At the 42nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference in Paris, Somalia’s Education Minister, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, stressed the essential role of UNESCO in supporting educational development in underdeveloped nations.
Representing Somalia, a country facing long-standing educational challenges, Minister Farah underscored the urgent need for UNESCO’s increased engagement in countries with similar difficulties. He highlighted the transformative potential of effective educational policies, backed by UNESCO’s support.
Minister Farah called for intensified UNESCO efforts in underdeveloped nations, citing successful education initiatives in Somalia as examples of progress. He linked education to the broader goals of economic, social, and political stability, and emphasized UNESCO’s role in fostering peace and global security through education.
His speech also celebrated Somalia’s achievements in weakening Al-Shabaab militants, attributing part of this success to educational empowerment, supported by UNESCO. He proudly announced Somalia’s initiative to train thousands of teachers and the government’s commitment to providing free education for all, emphasising education as a fundamental human right.
