(01-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Somali Police Force disclosed a disturbing increase in violence across Somalia this past week. The Force’s spokesperson, Saadiq Aden Ali, informed that the nation grappled with eight murders, variously linked to the militant group Al-Shabaab, tribal disputes, and common criminality.
Ali detailed the grim tally of incidents: eight injuries from violent acts, three road accidents, and three fires, with two occurring in the Banadir region and one in Hir Shabelle. The country also witnessed four explosions, all allegedly perpetrated by Al-Shabaab.
In a proactive response to these security challenges, the Somali Police Force, supported by local business leaders, has enhanced surveillance in commercial districts through the installation of cameras. “We call on all businessmen yet to comply with this measure to do so promptly, to protect the lives and properties of citizens,” Ali stated emphatically.
Additionally, the Police Force has issued an evacuation notice for those unlawfully residing on land belonging to the Police and its leadership in Wadajir district, particularly in the area extending from Sebiyano to near Madina Hospital.
These developments highlight the volatile security situation in Somalia, marked by the persistent threat of terrorism and civil disorder. The Somali Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to restoring order and safety, but these incidents are a stark reminder of the challenges that lie ahead in the nation’s ongoing struggle for peace and stability.
