(05-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart on Friday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, extended his thanks to Turkey for its support in the face of Ethiopian interference. This interaction stressed Turkey’s role in the stability and governance of the Horn of Africa region.
During the call, President Mohamud acknowledged Turkey’s significant contributions to Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, signalling the deep ties between the two nations. President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to assisting Somalia in its struggle against terrorism and pledged to continue the cooperation between the two countries.
A key point of discussion was the escalating tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia. President Erdoğan expressed concern over the situation and emphasised the need for a resolution that respects Somalia’s territorial integrity. This stance underscores Turkey’s strategic interest in maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa.
