(14-01-24) DHUSAMAREB (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State to ramp up the fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab. Accompanied by top officials, the president’s visit signifies a heightened focus on the ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling the insurgent group.

The atmosphere in Dhusamareb was charged with anticipation as preparations were made for President Mohamud’s arrival. The presence of government officials and a large number of locals highlighted the critical nature of the president’s visit in the context of the nation’s security.

To ensure the president’s safety, extraordinary security measures were implemented across Dhusamareb. Additional military personnel were deployed, particularly at the airport and throughout the city, reflecting the serious security concerns accompanying such high-profile visits.

At the core of President Mohamud’s agenda is the intensification of the campaign against Al-Shabaab. Upon his arrival, he engaged in crucial discussions with Galmudug leaders and representatives from various community sectors. These meetings focused on reinforcing collaboration and coordination in the ongoing efforts to free areas from Al-Shabaab’s control.

Somalia’s central regions, including Mudug and Galgudud, have been key battlegrounds in the efforts to reclaim territory from Al-Shabaab. The cooperation between the Somali National Army and local communities has been essential in these military operations.

President Mohamud’s proactive leadership in the campaign against Al-Shabaab has been evident for months, with him being based in Dhusamareb. As the operations, ongoing for over a year, move into their second phase targeting regions in Jubbaland and South West Somalia, the president’s visit underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to national security and stability amidst the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab.
