(12-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Members of both chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia are today engaged in critical discussions regarding the ratification and completion of amendments to the Provisional Constitution, which has remained unfinished for many years.
Today, both chambers will receive copies of the proposed amendments, followed by briefings from the Constitutional Review and Oversight Committee representing both bodies. The council will also be provided with a detailed schedule for the debates, which are expected to span several days. The Constitutional Review and Oversight Committee has prepared Chapters 1 through 4 for these discussions. The debate on Chapter 1 is set to occur from 14-19 February.
Subsequently, the debate on Chapter 2 is scheduled from 21 February to 4 March 4, and the discourse on Chapter 3 is arranged from 6-11 March. The deliberation on the final chapter, Chapter 4, will take place from 13-23 March. This marks the culmination of the second phase of discussions on Chapters 1 to 4 of the Republic’s Constitution, signalling a significant step towards constitutional completion and reform.
