21-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre commended the Somali Cabinet for approving the Somalia-Turkey Defence and Economic Agreement. Presiding over a special Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Barre hailed the accord as remarkable, with positive implications for Somalia’s future and progress.
He noted that the deal comes after many years of solid engagement between Turkey and Somalia, intending to dispel the shadows of terrorism, piracy, illicit fishing, and environmental damage caused by toxic waste dumping in Somali waters.
Prime Minister Barre highlighted the accord’s strategic benefits, emphasising its essential role in strengthening Somalia’s navy capabilities through sophisticated training and equipment programmes. Furthermore, the agreement aims to boost Somalia’s blue economy, promoting long-term growth and responsible use of maritime resources.
Prime Minister Barre thanked Turkey for its humanitarian assistance during critical times and stressed the two countries’ enduring bond of brotherhood.
