(19-02-24) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — The Puntland Intelligence and Security Agency (PISA) has reportedly detained and interrogated journalist Jamal Osman at Garowe airport. Osman is a Somali journalist freelancing with several media outlets in the UK. According to security reports, Osman was taken to Garowe for questioning by officials from the Puntland Intelligence Investigation Department.

PISA has yet to release a statement regarding the allegations against Osman. Sources indicate that Jamal could be deported from the region. In December 2022, Osman was deported upon arriving at Aden Adde International Airport due to his previous reporting on Al-Shabaab, which the government viewed as propaganda for the militant group.

In mid-June, the UK-based Channel 4 News aired a segment produced by the journalist titled ‘Inside Al-Shabaab,’ featuring the militant group’s leadership and facilities. Osman interviewed the group’s de facto leader, Mahad Karate, who has a US $5 million bounty offered by the US and is one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, within the militant outfit.
