(16-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali security forces thwarted two imminent explosive attacks in Mogadishu’s Abdicasis and Hodan districts on Friday, ensuring the safety of the city. The first incident was intercepted in the Abdicasis district when undercover National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers detained a man attempting to execute a suicide bombing. Officials presented the suspect to the media, revealing that he had been caught with an explosive device intended to cause significant harm.
In another incident in the Hodan district, particularly near the Ex-control Afgoye checkpoint, a vigilant NISA officer noticed an individual carrying a suspiciously heavy bag. Upon being challenged, the individual abandoned the bag containing explosives and fled. Security personnel managed to secure the area, preventing any potential damage.
These interventions came shortly after the evening prayer on Friday, when the streets of Mogadishu were typically crowded, highlighting the timely and decisive actions of the security forces.
The successful thwarting of these plots underscores the heightened state of alert and the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism strategies employed by Somali security forces, including NISA, the Police, and the Military Police. These efforts have been pivotal in mitigating the threat posed by the Al-Shabaab militant group and in securing the capital to an unprecedented level.
Authorities have since declared the security situation in Mogadishu to be stable, attributing this achievement to the security forces’ dedicated efforts in preventing terrorism. The government has praised the operatives for their bravery and swift response, which averted potential tragedies.
