Somalia and Qatar Strengthen Military Ties with Focus on Training and Security

The meeting focused on broadening avenues of cooperation, with both nations eager to strengthen their strategic partnership. This initiative comes as Somalia prepares to take over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) by year-end, marking a pivotal moment in its journey towards sustainable peace and security.

Major General Muhiyidin, alongside General Mohamud Sheikh Hassan, Commander of the Somali Air Force, toured Qatar’s military training facilities. These facilities play a crucial role in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Somali National Army through comprehensive training exercises. Major General Muhiyidin commended the Qatari government for its instrumental support in developing Somalia’s military forces, emphasising the importance of this partnership in combating regional security challenges and bolstering the fight against terrorism.
