(07-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — A series of airstrikes were carried out Wednesday night on six Al-Shabaab bases along the border between the Lower Shabelle and Middle Jubba regions in southern Somalia.
Sources close to the security forces have confirmed that the bombing inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabaab, including several high-ranking officers. Among the deceased are individuals known by the names Abu Hassan, Abu Ali, and Abu Basma, who are believed to be key figures within the group. The attacks have also led to substantial destruction of the militants’ infrastructure, disrupting their operational capabilities.
The military action comes amid a wider intensification of operations against Al-Shabaab in southern and central Somalia, where Somali, local forces, aided by airstrikes from Somali partners are endeavouring to reclaim territories under the control of the group. These efforts have seen significant territorial gains, weakening the militant group’s hold in the region.
The ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab are part of a broader strategy by the Somali government and its international partners to eradicate the threat posed by the group, which has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks within Somalia and in neighbouring countries.
