(26 March 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — A court in the Galgaduud region on Tuesday sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of killing a journalist in Abudwak, Galgaduud, on 13 March. The court convicted Mr Abdihakin Ahmed Egal of the murder of journalist Abdikarim Ahmed Bulhan.
Egal’s confession to the crime further bolstered the prosecution’s case. Despite his defence’s appeal for mercy, the court enforced the maximum penalty.
Bulhan’s killing has been met with strong condemnation from journalists, media, and journalists’ advocacy groups, which have called for the apprehension and trial of the perpetrator. These groups have also demanded an end to violations against media practitioners in Somalia.
