(22 March 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The National Security Agency of Somalia (NISA) has released photographs of six individuals suspected of orchestrating a series of fatal explosions in Mogadishu’s Bakara Market. The photographs, made available on NISA’s official Twitter account late Tuesday, show men allegedly involved in planting explosive devices that resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.

Authorities have launched a nationwide plea for assistance, urging anyone with information about the suspects to make urgent contact using the provided hotline numbers: 991/199 or 0770747474/0620545454. “The security agencies are actively searching for the individuals behind the tragic incidents in Bakara Market. We appeal to the public for any information that can lead to their apprehension,” the NISA statement read.

In addition, a detailed documentary aired by Somali National Television (SNTV) has exposed the sequential blasts that occurred on February 6, disrupting the bustling market life and resulting in significant civilian casualties. The documentary showcased footage obtained from hidden CCTV cameras, which captured the alleged bombers concealing explosives in bags before dispersing them throughout the market.

The recorded visuals have disclosed a chilling methodology, with the perpetrators initially transporting the explosives from Mogadishu outskirt Eelasha Biyaha to the market. They are shown interacting with shoppers, placing the lethal devices in targeted areas, including shops and public streets such as Bedar, Kamil, Sanguni, Wayo Arag, and an under-construction site within the marketplace.

The exposé also highlighted a distressing scene where an individual detonated landmines with a remote detonator, exacerbating the day’s horrors. The attacks have left the locals reeling, with increased calls for vigilance and security enhancements across Mogadishu.
