(06-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) —Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Hon. Sadia Yasin Haji Samatar, presided over a parliamentary session of both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, which began to review Chapter III of the provisional constitution as part of the proposed amendments to the country’s governing document. The chapters in question address issues of land, property, and environment, spanning Articles 42 to 47.
The Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee for both Houses of the Federal Parliament, Mr Hussein Idow, provided insights into the start of the third chapter’s review process. He underscored the significance of this chapter for the stewardship of land, property, and environmental conservation within the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Parliamentarians from both Houses contributed their insights to the debate, engaging in discourse over different subjects including land governance, the establishment of the Independent National Land Commission, criteria for Commission membership, management of natural resources, and environmental protection measures.
Concluding the day’s session, Ms Samatar announced that the discussions concerning Chapter III of the national constitution are scheduled for completion on Saturday.
