(13-03-24) DHUSAMAREB (Halqabsi News) — The trial of nine Somali National Army soldiers commenced Wednesday in the Galmudug state capital of Dhusamareeb, following charges of desertion and murder of their commander amidst ongoing conflicts with Al-Shabaab militants in the Mudug region.
The accused, appearing before the armed forces court, are primarily charged with abandoning their posts during critical confrontations in the areas of Amara and Ba’adweyne, recently reclaimed by Al-Shabaab militants. Additionally, they are implicated in the theft of military assets designated for civilian protection.
More severely, two of the soldiers face accusations relating to the fatal shooting of Mustafa Noor Suudi, also known as Dhobshaac, the commander of the Abu-Dujana brigade, whose body was discovered in Wisili town. This unit has been pivotal in the national campaign against terrorism.
Witnesses present during the incident provided testimony at the trial, recounting the events leading to the high-profile killing. Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Abukar Hassan, overseeing the proceedings, indicated that the military court would soon deliver its verdict on the defendants.
