(13-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed on Wednesday a targeted airstrike against the al-Shabaab terrorist group last Sunday, at the request of the Federal Government of Somalia. The military action aimed at the group’s militants was conducted in a remote area near Ugunji, approximately 71 km southwest of Mogadishu.

AFRICOM’s announcement stated the operation was carried out as a measure of collective self-defence, responding to the imminent threats posed by al-Shabaab militants. The strike successfully eliminated three terrorists, according to initial post-strike assessments. Furthermore, AFRICOM emphasised that there were no civilian casualties resulting from the airstrike.
