(22 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has directed electricity providers in Mogadishu to ensure the public has access to affordable, and dependable power. During a meeting attended by local electricity companies, where an agreement was reached, Prime Minister Barre underscored the importance of reliable electricity services that are economically accessible to all Somalis. Highlighting the importance of the newly forged agreement, he pointed out that this would open substantial opportunities for enhancing the national electricity infrastructure, which could profoundly impact the economic landscape by benefiting local entrepreneurs.

“The government implements these policies to foster an open market environment where companies are encouraged to compete in enhancing service quality, expanding their offerings, and minimising operational losses. These measures are essential for achieving economic independence and boosting production across the nation,” PM Barre said.

He further stressed the need for electricity firms to focus on maintaining continuous power supply at essential public and worshipping sites, like mosques.

Federal Minister of Energy and Water, Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, noted that after three months of deliberations, these discussions culminated in an agreement aimed at consolidating the efforts of the power companies involved. The deal was officially signed by Banadir Electric Company, BlueSky Energy, and Mogadishu Supply, under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Water of the Federal Government of Somalia.
