(13 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — At least two people were killed and several others wounded on Saturday when militias from rival tribes clashed in the Burhakaba district of Bay region, escalating fears of further violence in an area fraught with clan disputes.
The conflict broke out in the early hours, with residents reporting that both sides engaged in intense combat. The exact trigger for the clash remains unclear, with no immediate response from local authorities.
Burhakaba, located in the Southwest state of Somalia, has been a recurrent hotspot for inter-clan violence, stressing the deep-rooted issues that continue to challenge peace efforts in the region.
The violence in Burhakaba followed another incident on Friday involving clan militias in the Barawe and Qoryoley districts of the Lower Shabelle region, indicating a troubling pattern of unrest in the Southwest administration.
