(11 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — In an early morning operation on Thursday, Somali land forces successfully thwarted an attempted raid by the al-Shabaab militant group on Bar Sanguni military base, north of Kismayo, officials announced.
Colonel Dayah Abdi Abdulle, commander of the land forces, credited the operation’s success to a timely tip-off about the impending attack, allowing the troops to prepare and effectively defend the base. The militants suffered casualties, and several were captured, Abdulle disclosed.
The Bar Sanguni facility is manned by a coalition of federal and Jubaland regional troops, stressing the collaboration between different sections of the Somali military efforts to maintain stability and combat terrorism within the region.
