(22 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud presided over a grand welcoming ceremony at Mogadishu Port for the docking of Türkiye’s domestically produced TCG Kınalıada Corvette, coinciding with Türkiye’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. The ceremony highlighted the strong strategic partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, focusing on mutual benefits in humanitarian aid, security, defence, and economic development.
During his address aboard the TCG Kınalıada, President Mohamud praised the symbolic significance of the warship’s visit, describing it as a “sign of the enduring fraternal relations between the two brotherly nations and a new dawn for Somalia’s maritime security.” He also expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s continued support in safeguarding Somalia’s territorial waters, aligning with the recent Defense and Economic Cooperation agreement signed between the two countries.
Adding to the sentiments, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, who communicated via a greeting message, reaffirmed Türkiye’s robust support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Minister Fidan emphasized the historic relations between the nations, pointing to a “unity of destiny.”
