(09-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The death toll from the tribal conflict in Galgaduud region has risen to 50, with an additional 60 people injured. The fighting, which erupted on Saturday between two militias over grazing land near Abduwak and Herale, has intensified despite government intervention.
Both federal and Galmudug authorities have deployed security forces to the area to quell the violence. The situation has reportedly stabilised today, with ongoing peace efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
Galmudug President Abdi Karie Qorqoor appointed a five-member ministerial committee to mediate the dispute and find a lasting solution.
This latest outbreak of violence marks a worrying trend in the region, which has experienced a resurgence of tribal conflict in recent months. The clashes have caused significant disruption and suffering, with reports of displacement and casualties among the civilian population.
The government’s intervention and ongoing peace talks offer a glimmer of hope for resolving the conflict. However, the underlying issues of land disputes and resource scarcity remain a significant challenge to long-term stability in the region.
