(25-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali police, in collaboration with Interpol, successfully apprehended a fugitive murder suspect at Aden Adde International Airport today. Mohamed Omar Isse, 30, is accused of fatally shooting Mohamed Ahmed Farah with an AK47 rifle in Puntland’s Nugal region on 17 May 2023.
Following the incident, Isse fled to Kenya under the alias Abduqadir Omar Ali. However, Somali authorities, working closely with Interpol, tracked him down and uncovered his true identity.
Isse’s attempt to return to Somalia using a false “Go Home” document obtained from the Somali embassy in Kenya on 21 June 2024 triggered an alert from Interpol, leading to his arrest upon arrival in Mogadishu.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the Nugal regional court to face charges. Security experts have praised the operation as a testament to the effectiveness of regional cooperation in apprehending fugitives and ensuring justice is served.
