(10-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali police force in Mogadishu has intensified security operations throughout the capital and surrounding areas to curb rising insecurity. Police spokesman, Abdifitah Adan Hassan, announced the crackdown and detailed the recent capture of a significant robbery network during a press conference.
According to Hassan, the network was led by two former soldiers dismissed from the army. They were responsible for several thefts involving vehicles and mobile phones in the Dharkenley district and beyond. The gang’s activities extended to carjackings in the Garasbaaley district and Ceelasha Biyaha area, and they were also involved in numerous phone robberies in Dayniile.
In one incident, the gang stole a legally owned pistol from a citizen and used it to injure another individual. However, their crime spree was cut short when police successfully tracked and apprehended the two ringleaders along with two accomplices as they were preparing for another robbery.
The arrests are a significant victory for law enforcement in their efforts to combat the rising tide of crime in Mogadishu. The police spokesman assured the public that the intensified security measures will continue until the safety and security of all citizens are ensured.
