(08-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – At least 10 people have been killed and dozens injured in a resurgence of tribal conflict in central Somalia’s Galmudug region. The fighting, which erupted this morning, is concentrated between the towns of Abduwaq and Herale.
Two tribal militias are engaged in the fierce clashes, utilizing a range of weapons including military vehicles. Both sides are reportedly receiving reinforcements, further escalating the situation and raising concerns of prolonged violence.
The casualties include fighters from both militias as well as civilians caught in the crossfire. This ongoing conflict has inflicted a heavy toll on local communities, who have long endured the consequences of recurring tribal violence in the region.
The Galmudug State has not yet released a statement addressing the renewed fighting, leaving questions about potential interventions or measures to de-escalate the situation unanswered.
