(27 July 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali special forces, Danab, and regional Jubbaland Dervishes on Friday repelled an Al-Shabaab attack in the Harboole village, Lower Jubba region. Seven militants, including two key senior leaders, were killed in the operation conducted 12km outside Harboole.
The two senior leaders were identified as the head of the explosives unit, an expert in mines and explosives, and the group’s medic and head of health.
A brief statement from the Somali military command declared, “The Al-Shabaab militants who tried to attack the Harboole village have once again been taught a lesson they cannot recover from by the Danab and Jubaland heroes.” Recovered weapons were displayed to the media and shared on social media.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe, currently in Afmadow district to bolster military operations, was warmly received by the local community. His visit aims to accelerate the ongoing successful offensives against Al-Shabaab.
Last week, significant battles in Bulo-Haji and Harbole saw the army defend the towns from Al-Shabaab, who had launched attacks following their initial capture by Somali and Jubbaland forces in February. Over 200 Al-Shabaab militants were killed, and a significant cache of weapons was seized.
