(19 July 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Himilo Qaran Party, led by former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the recent influx of weapons into the Galmudug state of Abudwak, alleging that the federal government is responsible for the security breach.
The party expressed deep concern over the potential security risks posed by the weapons and accused the federal government of negligence in allowing arms smuggling in the country.
“We believe that these weapons were smuggled in to serve special interests and undermine the stability of the states opposed to the president,” the Himilo Qaran Party said in a statement released today.
The party’s statement followed a meeting of the National Security Council last night chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, where the weapons issue was discussed.
Himilo Qaran criticised the government for allegedly attempting to conceal its responsibility for the country’s security, citing leaked documents from the National Security Council meeting.
The party also expressed grave concerns that the weapons could fall into the hands of terrorists, warning that the federal government would be held accountable for any resulting consequences.
In a call to action, Himilo Qaran urged the public to hold government officials and security forces responsible for the situation and called on neighbouring countries to halt the flow of weapons into Somalia.
“The smuggling of arms into Somalia poses a threat to the security of the entire Horn of Africa region,” the party warned.
