(02-07-24) KISMAYO (Halqabsi News) – In a crucial session on constitutional reform on Tuesday, the Jubaland Regional Assembly has voted to endorse proposed amendments to over ten clauses in the state constitution. A significant change includes modifying Article 70, which previously allowed for only two consecutive presidential terms under the Jubaland Constitution.
Moreover, an amendment to Article 65 now mandates a fixed five-year presidential term. Jubaland is poised to hold regional assembly and presidential elections later this year.
