(14-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development today launched an initiative to develop a National Evaluation Curriculum and National Evaluation Standards/Guidelines. The initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of development projects across Somalia by improving transparency, accountability, and strategic decision-making.
The launch event, presided over by Minister of Planning Mohamud Abdirahman Benebene and UNICEF Somalia Country Representative, Ms. Wafaa Saeed, brought together a diverse range of stakeholders. These included representatives from various Federal Government of Somalia institutions, the United Nations, international NGOs, civil society organisations, academia, and the private sector.
Minister Benebene stressed the importance of establishing robust mechanisms to track and monitor the flow of funds allocated to development projects. He emphasised that greater accountability and transparency are crucial to ensuring that these projects deliver tangible benefits for the Somali people.
The National Evaluation Curriculum and National Evaluation Standards/Guidelines will be developed through a collaborative process involving all stakeholders. The curriculum will focus on building capacity in project evaluation, while the guidelines will provide a framework for conducting evaluations that are culturally sensitive, adaptive, and resilient.
The initiative is expected to contribute to improved project outcomes, enhanced institutional capacity, and increased community engagement in the development process. It aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and improving the lives of citizens.
