(08-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army has announced a successful operation against Al-Shabaab in the Bakool region. The 9th Battalion of the 60th Division, supported by the Wajid district administration, targeted and destroyed several Al-Shabaab bases in the areas of Baar, Eeljeedow, Eeltuumed, and Sijo.
The operation, described as a “large-scale planned operation”, forms part of the ongoing efforts by the South West State to liberate the region from Al-Shabaab control.
“The operation was a success,” the Somali government stated, “and it is part of a larger plan to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the region.”
Al-Shabaab has not yet issued a response to the SNA’s claims. However, the situation in the Bakool region remains tense, with military movements reported in various areas.
The operation comes as the South West State prepares for the second phase of its offensive against Al-Shabaab, aiming to liberate the entire state from the militant group’s control.
