(21-07-24) GALKAYO (Halqabsi News) – Officials from the Puntland and Galmudug administrations, alongside cultural elders of the Sa’ad and Lelkase communities, have announced a final resolution to the conflict in West Mudug, outlining key steps to implement a ceasefire and achieve lasting peace.
Key measures include verifying the complete implementation of the ceasefire and the separation of militants from the warring communities. Security forces will ensure no further conflict arises before the official peace agreement is enacted.
Furthermore, the construction of buildings and settlements in the conflict zone has been banned. Elders from both communities have been called upon to assist in enforcing the ceasefire decisions.
A significant milestone has been set for August 5th, 2024, when the Official Meeting for the Peace of the Two Communities will commence in Galkayo City. This meeting aims to finalize the peace dialogue between the two sides.
It has been decided that the Galkayo talks will be limited to elders from both communities. The Galmudug and Puntland administrations will monitor and mediate any disagreements, providing technical guidance throughout the conference.
