(24-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A senior Al-Shabaab militant has surrendered to security forces in Bulo Mareer town, Lower Shabelle region. Abdi Mohamed Araye, also known as Abdirashid, was identified as a high-profile Al-Shabaab operative who had been active in the Lower Shabelle region for over 14 years. MrmAraye was reportedly responsible for collecting extortion payments for the group.
During his surrender, he expressed remorse for his actions. He noted that the end of the militant group is approaching, citing intensified military operations against the group and increasing community reprisals.
