(01-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The federal government has postponed the implementation of a decision to ban the trade and use of single-use plastic bags by three months, following a request from the business community. A press release from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stated that the ban on plastic bags has been rescheduled for September 2024. The ban was originally issued on 1 February and was expected to be effective on 30 June.
The ministry mentioned that plastic bag traders are currently engaged in business agreements, which made it impossible to implement the decision at the originally planned time. The Ministry of Environment added that as of 1 October, the government will enforce the ban on the trade and importation of single-use plastic bags.
