(09-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has dispatched a delegation of experts to Mogadishu to evaluate and enhance security measures at Aden Adde International Airport. The delegation met with Somali airport officials, security agencies, and the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) to discuss collaborative efforts to elevate security standards.
The visit focused on bolstering security protocols at Aden Adde, a crucial transportation hub for Somalia and its large diaspora. The TSA experts assessed existing security operations, infrastructure, and the capabilities of Somali security agencies at the airport.
The three-day visit included meetings with various departments operating within the airport, aiming to streamline processes and enhance security effectiveness. The TSA’s involvement signals a potential pathway towards establishing direct flights between Aden Adde and airports in the United States, a move that could significantly benefit the large Somali-American community.
Currently, Aden Adde Airport operates daily flights to destinations in the Middle East (UAE, Qatar), East Africa (Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda), and Turkey, with EgyptAir expected to launch direct flights to Cairo next week.
